Hey Zeke,

Great question and for using Emerald Harvest products. Sorry for the delay – we wanted to get some info from our growers and get you the 100% right answer. Getting the right balance of watering and feeding is important for a healthy, vibrant garden. It’s great that you are using the drain-to-waste (also known as run-to-waste) system because it is easier and less prone to problems in general hydroponics gardening. Emerald Harvest nutrients are made of chelated micronutrients, as well as humic acid, vitamin B1, kelp extract, carbohydrates, silica, hemp seed flour and primarily all natural ingredients.

To figure out what watering/feeding ratio is best for your plants, ppm is a good indicator. The proper ppm ratio to maintain in a soil-less mix medium should be between 500-1000 ppm. So, if your runoff after feeding is 30-50 percent, which pushes through old nutrients rather than letting them accumulate, then you can feed your garden daily. If, however, you have little to no runoff, then you run the risk of overfeeding and “burning” the plants with too high concentrations of nutrients.

We recommend testing ppm before feeding and then again after you feed to ensure that you are staying within the correct range. You may find that a cycle of feed > water > water is more appropriate, depending on your regime.
